Waacky Moves Tasty Grooves is a dance event that centres around the queer dance style waacking. This time we are bringing it to you in the form of a workshop intensive! Three (inter)national guest teachers sharing their expertise and perspective on this style in three separate workshops. You will get the chance to learn from their unique approach and take home tools that will continue enriching your dance! The workshops are open to all levels, as we value creating a common ground for everyone to learn together. We will round up the day with an open jam with DJ Lucas Benjamin. Here you have the chance to try out your newly learned input or just connect and exchange with people. Join us and waack! See you there.

Guests & workshops
Carla
Carla Parcianello (they/them) is a dance artist from Italy, based in Belgium. They trained primarily in street and club dance styles, embracing waacking as their main form of expression, and are largely influenced by subcultural styles such as UK Jazz and House Dance. Since moving to Belgium in 2022, they have begun their professional career as a performer, working between France, Belgium and the Netherlands with companies such as Compagnie Nassangar, while also emerging as a choreographer. In 2025, they premiered their first solo dance piece, Capricciosa. Their dance practice focuses on deconstructing their club-dance background, using imagery, visualisation, absurdism and dream logic to develop a distinct dance language.

Workshop description: Carla's workshop will focus on grounding and grooving the body to support a more organic waacking armwork, making it fully connected to the body. It then moves into posing, using cinematic sound and imagery as inspiration.

Amber Vineyard aka Daddy Cool
Legendary Mother Amber Vineyard (they/them), known as Ambiance or 'Daddy Cool', is a trailblazer of the Dutch Ballroom scene, Mother of the House of Vineyard and a prominent figure in Amsterdam's nightlife and LGBTQIA+ community, representing non-binary finery. Amber is known for their unapologetic presence on stage and alluring performances, where the erotic is centred and celebrated as a source of power, pleasure and connection. Before Ballroom and Queer Cabarets, Amber founded Femme Lethal, introduced, organised and hosted the Netherlands' first waacking battles and workshops, helping build and shape the Dutch waacking community.

Workshop description: "I’m not dancing, I'm behaving on the beat!" In this class we will focus on Punking & Presence. How to take space, exude confidence while telling your body's story on our own terms. Using emotion, expression & gestures we will story tell in and out of the beat & together we break down the performance of gender and how we use it, and twist it, in and outside of your performance.

Idris
Idris (he/him) is a French dancer originally from Marseille. He began his dance journey with Latin American couple dance styles before turning his focus to commercial genres such as street jazz. However, it was through waacking that he truly found his artistic identity, which led him to join Company Madoki and Company Pazar, performing across Europe. Notably, he danced in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Workshop description: The class will focus on moving across the space, musicality and nuances, taking great inspiration from his jazz influences and unique approach to music.

DJ Lucas Benjamin
Lucas Benjamin (he/him) is an Amsterdam-based DJ, promoter and true musicologist. He has been travelling across the globe for the past 20 years, first competing in dance battles and later as a DJ. Lucas started his own record label in 2017 called Wicked Wax, co-founded a music platform named Steppin' Into Tomorrow, is part of the infamous Ghetto Funk Collective, and has organised plenty of club nights, live concerts, documentary screenings, and gives music lectures and DJ classes. In short, a person living music in its totality.

His music style: "The core of my sound always comes from the extended continuum of Black music, such as jazz, soul, funk, disco, house and hip-hop, plus the global diaspora (Afro/Brazilian/Latin) and more abstract and experimental forward-thinking electronic music. The element of surprise and the quest into the unknown is where I like to explore and connect the dots across the historic time frame."

Waacky Moves Tasty Grooves is een dansevenement dat draait om de queer dansstijl waacking. Dit keer brengen we het naar je toe in de vorm van een intensieve workshop! Drie (inter)nationale gastdocenten delen hun expertise en kijk op deze stijl in drie afzonderlijke workshops. Je krijgt de kans om te leren van hun unieke aanpak en tools mee naar huis te nemen die jouw dansmoves blijven verrijken! De workshops zijn toegankelijk voor alle niveaus, omdat we waarde hechten aan het creëren van een gemeenschappelijke basis waar iedereen samen kan leren. We sluiten de dag af met een open jam met DJ Lucas Benjamin. Hier kun je je nieuw geleerde moves uitproberen of gewoon connecten en ervaringen uitwisselen met anderen. Doe mee en waack! Tot dan.

Carla
Carla Parcianello (die/diens) is een dansartiest uit Italië, gevestigd in België. Die heeft zich vooral verdiept in street- en clubdance-stijlen en omarmt waacking als diens belangrijkste expressievorm. Die wordt sterk beïnvloed door subculturele stijlen zoals UK Jazz en House Dance. Sinds diens verhuizing naar België in 2022 is die diens professionele carrière als performer gestart, werkend in Frankrijk, België en Nederland met gezelschappen zoals Compagnie Nassangar, en is die ook actief als choreograaf. In 2025 ging diens eerste solo-dansvoorstelling Capricciosa in première. Carla’s danspraktijk richt zich op het deconstrueren van diens clubdance-achtergrond, waarbij beeldspraak, visualisatie, absurditeit en droomlogica worden gebruikt om een unieke dansstijl te ontwikkelen.

Workshopbeschrijving: Carla’s workshop richt zich op het aarden en laten grooven van het lichaam ter ondersteuning van een meer organische waacking-armbeweging, volledig verbonden met het lichaam. Vervolgens wordt gewerkt aan posing, geïnspireerd door cinematografische geluiden en beelden.

Amber Vineyard aka Daddy Cool

Workshopbeschrijving: "I’m not dancing, I'm behaving on the beat!" In deze les ligt de focus op Punking & Presence. Hoe je ruimte inneemt, zelfvertrouwen uitstraalt en je lichaamsverhaal op eigen voorwaarden vertelt. Met emoties, expressie en gebaren vertellen we verhalen op en buiten de beat. Samen onderzoeken we de performance van gender en hoe we deze gebruiken en verdraaien, binnen en buiten je performance.

Idris

Workshopbeschrijving: Deze les richt zich op bewegen door de ruimte, muzikaliteit en nuances, met veel inspiratie uit zijn jazz-invloeden en unieke benadering van muziek.

DJ Lucas Benjamin
Lucas Benjamin (hij/hem) is een in Amsterdam gevestigde DJ, promotor en ware musicoloog. Al 20 jaar reist hij de wereld rond, eerst als deelnemer aan dance battles en later als DJ. In 2017 richtte hij zijn eigen platenlabel Wicked Wax op, co-founded hij het muziekplatform Steppin' Into Tomorrow, maakt hij deel uit van het beruchte Ghetto Funk Collective, en organiseerde talloze clubavonden, liveconcerten, documentairevertoningen en geeft hij muziekcolleges en DJ-lessen. Kortom, een persoon die muziek in al zijn facetten ademt.

Muziekstijl: "De kern van mijn geluid komt altijd uit de uitgebreide continuüm van zwarte muziek, zoals jazz, soul, funk, disco, house en hip-hop, plus de wereldwijde diaspora (Afro/Braziliaans/Latijns) en meer abstracte, experimentele elektronische muziek. Het element van verrassing en de zoektocht naar het onbekende zijn de plekken waar ik graag verken en de lijnen leg tussen verschillende historische tijdsperiodes."
